How Many of the Morally Outraged Who Couldn't Vote for Vitter Happy Now?

Yet another one in the "the hits keep on hitting" books, the "Honor Code" governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, has yet again hit more of the citizens of the state straight between and in the pockets.  In true Democrat fashion, instead of seeking other ways to fund the TOPS program in the state for higher education, letters have been sent out to students and families advising that the program is being cut yet again.  This time, to the tune of upwards of 40%.

In his statement regarding the cuts, Honor Code said the following:

"The upcoming regular session in 2017 will give us another opportunity to stabilize Louisiana’s budget and invest in our children’s futures, and I’m asking the legislature to work with me, so that Louisiana’s students are not left to shoulder the burden of our state’s financial problems.”

Let me break it down to you in English - we're gonna tax that ass even more..................

Don't blame me.  I voted for Vitter.

"Bananas" Foster is Toast in the December Runoff

John Kennedy is going into a runoff with Foster Campbell to replace outgoing Sen. David Vitter with an almost assured win coming in December.  In this piece, Republicans gained nearly 60% of the total vote in the primaries as opposed to 36% for a Democrat.

If you are having buyers remorse for voting for "Honor Code" Edwards in the gubernatorial election last year, then hopefully you've learned your lesson and won't make the same mistake again in voting for Campbell.

LANDRY: The Clinton-Edwards Insult

It seems that the latest play by career politicians is to attack those who disagree as backwards. According to recent revelations and interviews, if you maintain a faith in traditional doctrine - you are "backwards."

Last week, in an interview with the Times Picayune, John Bel Edwards said that I was "a backwards-thinking attorney general" for upholding the rule of law against his unconstitutional power grab. This insult followed a similar attack by the Hillary Clinton campaign who mocked the Catholic faith as "severely backwards" when it comes to abortion and same-sex marriage.

While I am offended by these insults, I am not dismayed by them. In fact, I am emboldened to continue doing what you elected me to do: enforce the laws enacted by your duly-elected representatives and protect your freedoms.

For too long - Catholics, Christians, and other people of faith have come under attack by people like Clinton, Edwards, and others who wish to subvert the moral foundations upon which our great State and Nation were built.

As Bill Donohue of the Catholic League recently said of this "stunning movement" in American politics, "bigotry is measured by words and deeds. It doesn't turn on demographic characteristics of the person. If their message is bigoted, then it's bigoted. If their deeds are bigoted, then they're bigoted."

As for me, I will not be intimidated or cower to the Clinton-Edwards attacks on our individual liberty and traditional values. Rather - I will continue to defend our Constitution, the will of the people, and common decency.

I hope you will stand with me in this worthy cause.

For Louisiana,
Jeff Landry

Mike Francis Leads in Latest Poll for Public Service Commission Seat

The latest JMC Analytics Poll, paid for by the Mike Francis campaign, shows him with a lead in the race.  The summary points of the race are below:

SUMMARY POINTS

  • In PSC District 4, Donald Trump has a nearly 2:1 lead over Hillary Clinton, with 82-7% Republican support, while blacks support Clinton 75-13%;
  • For the first time since JMC Analytics started polling this race in July, Mike Francis has moved into first place over Werner with a 25-23% lead. If undecided “leaners” are included, his lead over Werner widens to 10 points (39-29%);
  • For the three months that JMC Analytics and Polling has polled this race, Reldon Owens has only moved up two points, while Mike Francis has more than doubled his support;
  • In a hypothetical runoff matchup, Mike Francis has a nearly 2:1 (51-29%) lead over Mary Werner, while Owens only has an eight point (39-31%) lead over Werner;
  • Even though Reldon Owens has touted endorsements from the Republican establishment, rank and file Republican voters have different ideas: Francis has a 37-6% lead over Owens among Republicans (58-13% if undecided "leaners" are included);  In summary, Mike Francis is positioned for a strong finish on November 8.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry issued the following statement after 19th Judicial District Court Judge Don Johnson dismissed Governor John Bel Edwards’ petition challenging the legal authority of the Attorney General:

“I applaud Judge Johnson for his attentiveness and preparation and for his learned decision and judgment. All along, I have stated my intention to put Louisiana’s best interests forward as I serve as the State’s chief legal officer. I will not cower to executive overreach; rather, I will continue to defend our Constitution and the will of the people.”

Constitutional Guide for the November 8 Election

Republican National Committeeman Ross Little issued a guide on Sunday regarding the six Louisiana constitutional amendments that are on the ballot in the November election.  Little has suggested YES on 2 of these amendments and NO on everything else.  The body of his email is included below:

Amendment 1.  NO. Lets' mess up the Registar of Voters.  This is an awful proposal. It would mess up Registrars of Voters everywhere by silly do-gooder requirements placed on Parishes in hiring Registrars.

The supposed idea is to "professionalize" registrars by adding various requirements to registrars.  It's a bad idea.  When in business, I fought against this my entire career.  Many wanted to require college degrees for almost everything. The problem is that universites have become headquarters for liberals everywhere.

What will soon mean:  Lots of expensive, and mostly useless, "Continuing Education," which means taxpayers will have to pay for registrars to take expensive trips and endure more drivel from liberal "presenters."

The registrars will be unduly influenced by these folks and things will get worse from there.

In case you didn't know, liberals want to "federalize" voter registration.

Think there is voter fraud now?  Just wait until the feds take over.  Here are A Few of their Bad Ideas.

So - please vote NO.

Amendment 2. YES.  Tuition autonomy.  Colleges and universities are heavily subsidized by taxpayers.  It would be better for students to pay their own expenses.  This would allow universities to do a bit more of that.

Of course, taxpayers will continue to pay a significant cost of college tuition.

This is just a very small step.

As a reminder -- Bernie Sanders wants supposedly "free" college for all  -- which means the taxpayers will pay for the vast waste at Universities.

This proposal is the opposite of the Bernie Sanders approach.

It's a good idea.

Vote YES!

Amendment 3. NO. Increase taxes on businesses. This proposal would increase taxes on businesses by taking away vital tax deductions.

In this case, businesses could no longer deduct federal income taxes paid.

Why they want this:  Now, if federal taxes go up, state taxes go down.  This is great for taxpayers but state lawmakers would rather have the extra money to dole out. This proposal would mean that even as federal taxes go up, state taxes would also go up.

It's a bad idea.

Some estimate that businesses would pay another $30 million per year.  Others claim it would be revenue neutral.

Taxes are already too high.  We need to lower, not raise taxes.

What proponents will argue -- this is a flat tax of 6.5% on business, which is lower for some and higher for others.

My answer -- then why are taxes expected to increase up to $30 million per year?

Why not decrease taxes for all businesses?

Just say NO.

Amendment 4. NO. Tax Exemption for our Favorite People.  This is how they get you.

They propose a tax exemption to the most deserving of people -- in this case the spouses of persons killed in the line of duty.

This whole business of exemptions is usually a bad idea.  Belly up and Vote NO.

Amendment 5. NO. Budget Stabilization Fund.  Seems almost every election we are asked to do another "stabilization fund."

This one points out that we have a big problem -- Retirement Funds for government employees.  They are out of control.  This proposal, however, would make everything worse.

We need to change government workers retirement funds to 401(k) type programs just like everyone else.  Businesses got rid of these defined beneift plans because they were way too expensive.

Let's solve the problem - not make it worse.  Please, please vote NO.

Amendment 6. NO. Convoluted plan to adjust the threshold to tap certain funds and adds new protected funds.

We have so many funds it is ridiculous.

While I like the idea of being able to tap these funds, I really dislike the idea of adding a bunch of new protected funds.

If they would have simply reduced the threshold to tap the funds, I would have said yes.  They didn't.  They also added some new protected funds.

Yuck.

This is a move in the wrong direction.  We should be eliminating protected funds, not creating more such funds.

Instead of all these silly protected funds, our legislators should vote on every item.  I don't like excuses like - "The constitution makes us spend money on all these ridiculous items.

Let them know that we don't want more of these funds.

Just vote NO.

Charles Boustany Receives Endorsement from The Daily Advertiser

In Sunday's edition of The Daily Advertiser out of Lafayette, Congressman Charles Boustany received their endorsement for his candidacy in the Senate race for the seat being vacated by David Vitter.  Boustany is running in a crowded field of 24 candidates and has been leading the pack in polling numbers for several weeks.  In the endorsement, the paper highlighted Boustany as offering "right intention, dogged determination and sincere and informed leadership consistent with the needs of Louisiana and the nation."

The Daily Advertiser also highlighted Boustany's leadership on issues directly affecting the citizens of Louisiana, chief among them, the oil and gas industry.  Additionally, his lead on coastal restoration, international trade, American security and international affairs were among the issues that were most important in their endorsement.

John Fleming Positioned to Make Runoff for Senate Seat

In the latest JMC Analytics and Polling, which was commissioned by the Fleming campaign, shows that Fleming is positioned to make the runoff for the Senate seat being vacated by David Vitter.

The poll, which can be seen here, shows Fleming “winning the Republican primary” with a 27-25% lead over Kennedy among Republicans. If undecided voters are included, he expands to a 30-25% lead over Kennedy.

It also shows that Foster Campbell, one of two Democrats running in the election, is the likely candidate for a runoff in the election against one of the Republicans in the race, which are likely Fleming, Charles Boustany or John Kennedy.

And It's Only Beginning...................

I recently received an email from an insider in the oil and gas industry here in Louisiana concerning a disturbing trend that I fear will be starting because of short-sighted and ill-advised politicians sucking like leeches on the industry with the threat of lawsuits for coastal erosion.  In the email, which appears below, machine work that is normally done here in our state is now being moved to Texas because of the political climate surrounding people like Governor "Honor Code" Edwards and his crony attorney friends.

Shell recently ordered 10 offshore busing assemblies from a Texas machine shop that used to be machined in Louisiana.  Each assembly is about $120,000.

BP contacted same shop for similar work last week saying that they (BP) have to move work that used to be done in Houma to Texas because of a new political environment facing energy companies working in Louisiana.

Good for Texas but bad for Louisiana.

This is already starting and we haven't even filed the first suit against any oil company yet.  What will happen when our "Governor" finally does file that lawsuit?  I can tell you what will happen.  You'll see the decimation of an industry vital to families and hard-working taxpayers in Louisiana.

If you vote Democrat and working in the oil and gas industry, you seriously need to have your head examined.

But, don't blame me.  I voted for Vitter.

Graves Continues to Stay on Top of FEMA Regarding the "Shelter at Home" Program

Representative Garret Graves (LA-06) has continued to keep on top of FEMA and the "Shelter at Home" Program put into place following the floods of the Summer of 2016.  Graves points out several issues that he has with the program's implementation in a recent letter that was sent to FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate.  Highlights of the letter are:

  1. Wasting money on bureaucracy
  2. Inappropriate cap
  3. Forcing the use of certain contractors
  4. Rejecting the "Do It Yourselfers"
  5. Transparency

Charles Boustany Releases a Piece Called "Finally" Regarding Treasurer John Kennedy

Congressman Charles Boustany, running for the seat being vacated in the US Senate by David Vitter, is in a heated contest with, among others, State Treasurer John Kennedy.  It seems that Boustany has set his sights on Kennedy with the latest piece being put out by the campaign, along with an accompanying video, highlighting what Boustany calls a "truth telling parody".

Below accompanied the video in an email released today:

The ad says: “He’s a career politician. He’s run for office ten different times.1 Backed a $1.1 billion tax increase.2

“John Kennedy led costly short-term budget gimmicks that cost taxpayers $200 million.3 Wasted taxpayer money renting office space from one of his campaign contributors.4

“Budget gimmicks. While the state’s credit rating is downgraded.5 John Kennedy: finally, someone is calling him out.”

1Career politician John Kennedy ran for office ten different times from 1991-2016.

  1. 1991 – Attorney General (D), lost

  2. 1995 – Attorney General (D), withdrew

  3. 1999 – Treasurer (D), won

  4. 2003 – Treasurer (D), won

  5. 2004 – Senate (D), lost

  6. 2007 – Treasurer (R), won

  7. 2008 – Senate (R), lost

  8. 2011 – Treasurer (R), won

  9. 2015 – Treasurer (R), won

  10.  2016 – Senate (R)

2John Kennedy backed a $1.1 billion tax increase on Louisiana oil & gas earlier this year as a way to make up the state’s budget shortfall. On WWL-Radio New Orleans, Kennedy claimed: “The total amount of waste and inefficiencies that the legislative auditor in these 36 reports identified just last year, in 2015, is $1.745 billion.” When challenged on his numbers, Treasurer Kennedy provided a report on government waste to Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards identifying $1.7 billion in ‘waste’ – including $1.148 billion in uncollected revenue from the state’s temporary tax exemption on hydraulic fracturing from 2010-2014.

3A performance review of the Louisiana Bond Commission in February found that short-term budget gimmicks employed by Kennedy as Chairman of the Bond Commission dating back to the 2010-2011 budget year helped plug short-term budget gaps, but incurred long-term costs to the state of as much as $231 million.

4A report by The Advocate found that the Treasurer’s Office has leased office space since 2011 at One City Plaza in Baton Rouge at a cost of $369,597 per year to taxpayers. The Treasurer repeatedly ignored attempts from the Office of Facility Planning and Control to move to state-owned office space that would have saved the state $293,868 per year. Kennedy has received $21,600 in campaign contributions from the owner of the facility.

5Louisiana’s credit rating was downgraded by Moody’s in February 2016. According to the AP: “Treasurer John Kennedy said Moody’s decision surprised him."

Fleming Surges to Statistical Tie with Boustany and Campbell in Senate Race

In the latest poll by JMC Analytics, Congressman John Fleming has surged to a statistical tie with Rep. Boustany and PSC Campbell for the race to replace Sen. David Vitter in the US Senate in Louisiana.  Fleming has moved up 6 points since the last poll done in July, while both Boustany and Campbell have held steady with support since the last poll.

A copy of the results of this poll can be found here.

"Honor Code" Edwards and His Quest to Take Louisiana Back in Time

An excellent piece was recently written concerning the current Governor's quest to take Louisiana back to a time in place ruled by special interests.

Per the piece, "the biggest impact the election of Mr. Edwards means to the people of Louisiana and anyone doing business in the state will, if the Governor gets his way, mean a state government of trial lawyers, by trial lawyers and for trial lawyers."

It's no more evident that this is occurring than his recent attempts to appoint political donors into a lawsuit against oil and gas interests here in Louisiana.

Boustany Tours Flood Damage on Congressional Delegation Trip with Garret Graves, Out-of-State Members

(Baton Rouge, LA) – Dr. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) helped lead a congressional delegation trip with Representative Garret Graves (R-Baton Rouge) to Baton Rouge yesterday. The trip included several of the Louisiana congressmen’s out-of-state colleagues to tour flood-damaged areas in Baton Rouge.

Boustany said: “I’m proud to help lead a congressional delegation trip with Garret Graves to Baton Rouge to show our out-of-state colleagues the devastation in this area as our state begins the grueling task of rebuilding. I am committed to working with local, state, and federal officials to get Louisiana back up and running.”

"Honor Code" Is Showing His True Colors

image.jpg

Here's something you've probably not heard on any of the media outlets. WWL and The Advocate are reporting on a story that broke last night highlighting Gov. John Bel Edwards’ involvement in a major pay-for-play scandal over legal contracts that were handed out to his top campaign donors to represent the state in coastal litigation.

Guess that "Honor Code" crap spouted during the campaign was just another lie from just another Democrat.

Don't blame me. I voted for Vitter.

Vitter, Grassley, Cassidy Demand Criminal, Immigration History of Alleged Illegal Alien Bus Driver Following Fatal Louisiana Crash

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), along with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.), today sent a letter to Jeh Johnson, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), demanding background information on the driver of a bus that collided with emergency personnel who were responding to another incident on a Louisiana roadway, killing two individuals and injuring scores more. The driver, Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez, is allegedly in the country illegally and had a history of driving without a license. He was driving a bus reportedly full of other foreign nationals when the collision occurred on August 28, which killed a local fire chief Spencer Chauvin and civilian passenger Jermaine Starr.

“This past Sunday, two American lives were tragically cut short in a bus crash in St. John the Baptist Parish, and my thoughts and prayers remain with their families,” said Vitter. “As we continue looking into the circumstances surrounding the bus crash, it’s troubling to know that the driver responsible is an illegal alien who did not have the proper documentation to be legally driving in the United States. This tragedy absolutely could have been prevented, and it's important for Secretary Johnson to cooperate in investigating the illegal alien who took two innocent American lives on Sunday, including any prior criminal activity.”

“Sadly, this is yet another story in a long line of stories where innocent American citizens have been killed or injured by an illegal alien who has complete disregard for the laws of this nation,” wrote the Senators‎ in today's letter.

In their letter, the Senators are requesting records related to Rodriguez’ immigration history, including when he entered the United States, whether he applied for immigration benefits, such as deferred deportation, details on any immigration court orders, proceedings or notices and detainer or notification requests. The Senators are also seeking details on his criminal history, including prior arrests, charges, dispositions, jurisdictions and explanations for any releases from custody. Specifically, they are asking about any affiliations with criminal gangs and whether Rodriguez would have been considered an enforcement priority prior to the bus incident based on his previous encounters with law enforcement. Further, the Senators are seeking details on the company that chartered the bus, how Rodriguez was allowed to operate it without a proper license, and whether immigration authorities are examining the immigration status of the bus’s other passengers. Finally, the Senators are asking whether immigration authorities have been in contact with victims or their families regarding the incident.

Below is the text of today’s letter, or click here to read today’s letter.

August 30, 2016
The Honorable Jeh Johnson
Secretary
Department of Homeland Security
Washington, DC 20528

Dear Secretary Johnson:

On August 28, Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez, an illegal alien from Honduras, was driving a charter bus without a license when he allegedly lost control of the bus and crashed into a firetruck that was responding to a previous accident. Two individuals were killed, Jermaine Starr, a back-seat passenger in a car Mr. Rodriguez rear-ended, and Spencer Chauvin, the St. John the Baptist Parish Fire District Chief, and dozens of others were wounded.

Trooper Melissa Matey, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana State Police, indicated that a majority of the passengers on the bus were believed to be foreign nationals, all of whom were reportedly on their way to Baton Rouge to assist with clean up following the recent, devastating floods in the area. At the time of this letter, the immigration status of these individuals remains unclear, as well as how Mr. Rodriguez came to be in command of the bus.

An August 28, 2016 report by the New Orleans Advocate also indicates that Mr. Rodriguez had been pulled over by Jefferson Parish authorities on August 5, and cited for driving without a license. Sadly, this is yet another story in a long line of stories where innocent American citizens have been killed or injured by an illegal alien who has complete disregard for the laws of this nation.

In light of the fact that Mr. Rodriguez is an illegal alien, please provide the following information no later than September 12, 2016:

1.      The alien registration number for Rodriguez, his complete alien file (A-file), including any temporary files, working files, or Service Center files, and all documents and items contained in them, all reports or notifications generated by DHS or in its possession about him, whether currently in written or electronic form, including, but not limited to, the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Executive Summary, criminal history or immigration summaries, detainers or requests for notification, I-213(s), and Notice(s) to Appear or other charging documents created to seek his removal from the United States.

2.      Please identify each and every date on which Rodriguez was encountered by a law enforcement agency in the United States, to include criminal and civil arrests, the nature of the charge, the jurisdiction where the arrest occurred, the disposition of that charge, the date(s) on which he was released from the custody of that law enforcement agency, and the reason(s) for the release.  Please provide the arrest and disposition documentation for each encounter.

3.      How and when did Rodriguez enter the United States? Was he ever served with a Notice to Appear?  Was it filed with an immigration court? Please explain.

4.      Did Rodriguez ever apply for any immigration benefits, including deferred action?  If so, was any application approved?  Please provide copies of any applications that he may have submitted, whether or not adjudicated.

5.      Has Rodriguez been removed previously?  If so, when?

6.      Has ICE issued a detainer or request for notification to any entity regarding Rodriguez?  Please explain.

7.      Was Rodriguez a member of, or associated with any criminal gang?  Please explain.

8.      If Rodriguez had been encountered by DHS enforcement officials prior to his arrest for murder, would he have met the requirements to be considered a priority for removal under the Administration’s Priority Enforcement Program?  If so, please provide the exact reason for such consideration.  If not, why not?

9.      Have the victims, or their immediate family members, been contacted by officials at ICE?  Please provide details.

10.  Is DHS investigating who or what company chartered the bus and hired Mr. Rodriguez to operate it without a valid commercial driver’s license?

11.  Is ICE working to determine the immigration status of the passengers on the bus Mr. Rodriguez was driving?

As you know, the Privacy Act authorizes disclosure of information to Committees of Congress. If you cannot fully respond to each and every request for documents or information set forth above, please identify the specific item requested to which you cannot fully respond and explain why you cannot respond.

Signed,

Charles E. Grassley
Chairman
