Why the Kids Online Safety Act Must Pass Now

Today the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing on the Kids Online Safety Act. After successfully passing through committee. it's time to advance this bill through the full House of Representatives.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is one of the most important pieces of legislation in over two decades aimed at protecting children from online harms. The last time Congress passed a law to safeguard kids online was in 1998, before social media and smartphones became integral to daily life. Today, social media platforms, gaming sites, and other online environments expose children to a wide range of risks, including bullying, addiction, sexual exploitation, and harmful content. KOSA, which recently passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support, seeks to update regulations to address these modern dangers.

The act is supported by a broad coalition of parents’ groups, children's advocacy organizations, and tech companies like Microsoft, X (formerly Twitter), and Snap. These groups argue that KOSA is a crucial first step in holding tech companies accountable for the harm their platforms can cause. By creating a “duty of care,” the legislation would require online platforms to take reasonable steps to prevent harm to minors. This includes preventing exposure to dangerous content, such as the promotion of suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, and sexual exploitation.

The bill also mandates that social media platforms offer minors the option to protect their information, disable addictive product features, and opt out of algorithmic recommendations. It goes further to limit users' ability to communicate with minors and restrict platform features designed to increase engagement, such as autoplay and rewards systems. This “safety by default” approach ensures that platforms must prioritize the well-being of young users by defaulting to the most secure settings.

Despite the overwhelming support, KOSA faces some opposition. Critics, particularly from groups concerned with free speech, have raised concerns about potential violations of the First Amendment. They worry that the bill might be used to restrict access to vital information on topics such as LGBTQ+ issues or reproductive rights. However, the bill has been revised to address many of these concerns, and several prominent LGBTQ+ groups have since dropped their opposition.

Children's exposure to the internet is higher than ever, with kids aged 8 to 12 spending an average of five hours per day on screens, and teenagers clocking in over eight hours. Studies show a significant increase in mental health issues among youth, with alarming rates of depression, bullying, and suicidal thoughts linked to social media use. In this environment, the need for KOSA is urgent. As Julianna Arnold, a parent whose daughter tragically died after purchasing tainted drugs via Instagram, stated, "Every other industry has been regulated to keep our children safe. Why not this one?"

Parents and policymakers alike recognize that Big Tech has repeatedly failed to regulate itself when it comes to protecting children. By enforcing independent audits and research into how platforms affect the mental health and well-being of young users, KOSA would create transparency and accountability. The Federal Trade Commission would oversee much of this enforcement, while state attorneys general would play a role in ensuring compliance with specific provisions of the act.

KOSA's passage would mark the first major legislative reform to regulate the tech industry since the 1990s. Groups like the American Academy of Pediatrics, Common Sense Media, the NAACP, and ParentsSOS, a group of parents who have lost children due to social media harms, have championed the bill's passage. This broad and growing coalition reflects how deeply concerned Americans are about the unchecked influence of tech platforms on their children.

The bipartisan support for KOSA reflects its universal importance. U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) authored the bill, garnering backing from conservatives like Richard Grenell and Newt Gingrich, as well as progressive advocates for child safety. “Big Tech has abused conservatives for far too long,” said Grenell, adding that KOSA is a necessary tool to protect children from exploitation by drug cartels, sex predators, and human traffickers.

The Kids Online Safety Act passed through the Energy and Commerce Committee after representatives on both sides of the aisle expressed enthusiastic support.

As the bill moves toward the House of Representatives, it is vital that our leaders, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Speaker Mike Johnson, push for its swift passage. Protecting children should not be a partisan issue, and KOSA is an opportunity to take meaningful action against the exploitation of our most vulnerable population.

To Leader Scalise and Speaker Johnson: it is time to act. KOSA represents a rare moment of bipartisan agreement in Congress and an urgent call to safeguard our children from the harms of unchecked digital platforms. Please ensure that this critical bill passes the House and reaches the President's desk for signature. Our children's safety online cannot wait another 25 years.

Senate passes Kennedy-backed bill to make Biden-Harris admin’s DHS disclose catch-and-release data

“Louisianians and all Americans deserve total transparency about who is in their communities. For that reason, the House should bring this bill to the president’s desk quickly.”

WASHINGTON – The Senate unanimously passed the Southern Border Transparency Act, which Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, helped introduce.

The bill, which Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) led, would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to issue reports detailing how it is handling illegal aliens seeking entry along the southern border.

“Vice President Harris was tasked with addressing immigration, and under her and Pres. Biden’s watch, millions of illegal immigrants have been released into our country by DHS. Louisianians and all Americans deserve total transparency about who is in their communities. For that reason, the House should bring this bill to the president’s desk quickly,” said Kennedy.

The Biden-Harris administration uses tools such as parole to drive down apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border and avoid removing foreign nationals who enter the country illegally.

“The Biden-Harris administration has gone to great lengths to hide the ball when it comes to levels of illegal immigration, but the American people deserve to know exactly how many migrants are being released into the country and exactly on what terms. This is the most basic of transparency measures—just the facts, that’s all we’re looking for,” said Cornyn.

The bill would require the DHS to report on the:

  • Number of migrants paroled at each port of entry (POE), broken down by nationality and demographics.

  • Number of migrants paroled in each Border Patrol sector, broken down by nationality and demographics.

  • Number of migrants apprehended at each POE.

  • Number of migrants apprehended in each Border Patrol sector.

  • Number of petitions for parole received and granted by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and the total number of aliens paroled into the U.S., broken down by nationality and demographics.

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), John Hawley (R-Mo.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) also cosponsored the legislation.

Governors Landry & Sununu Announce the Governors' Coalition for Energy Choice

BATON ROUGE, LA – Addressing one of the fastest-growing strains on family finances, Governor Jeff Landry (LA) and Governor Chris Sununu (NH) have formed a new organization to help Americans tackle the high costs of energy and accelerating energy cost inflation. The Governors' Coalition for Energy Choice will help state leaders formulate smart energy policies that will benefit working families, businesses, and our communities. Governors Landry and Sununu are joined by eight of their colleagues: Governor Kemp (GA), Governor Lee (TN), Governor Holcomb (IN), Governor Gordon (WY), Governor Huckabee Sanders (AR), Governor Noem (SD), Governor Stitt (OK), Governor Youngkin (VA).

“Everyone wants reliable energy, whether that be electricity, heating and cooling, and transportation. One thing is clear—states that enhance energy choice also enjoy lower energy costs, increase reliability, and attract businesses and employment opportunities,” Gov. Landry said. “As Governor of a major energy producing state, I know that it is important to sustain those trends for the benefit of residents and businesses. I look forward to working with my fellow governors in the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Choice.”

“High energy costs driven by government regulation are crushing middle income families already burdened by inflation. These families deserve affordable and reliable energy,” Gov. Sununu said. “Here in New Hampshire, we have kept energy prices in line by embracing fuel choice and minimizing expensive mandates.  I am excited to take what we have learned to help other states across the country.”

The two Governors have reached out to over 24 fellow Governors total across the country to invite them to join this effort. The goals of the organization are to ensure continued energy choice, minimize permitting and other regulatory barriers, limit expensive energy mandates, focus on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure, and coordinate to positively manage energy resources and the environment.

At a time when every family in America is feeling the impacts of inflation, it is imperative for state leaders to ensure energy policies are focused on affordability, reliability, and good stewardship. That is how the best-performing states foster economic opportunity and improve the lives of their citizens. The Governors’ Coalition for Energy Choice will actively work with states to ensure energy policies are done right.

Kennedy in the Ouachita Citizen: Failed Biden-Harris border policies leave Louisiana less safe

“They opened the border in hopes of getting more votes, and they left Louisianians and Americans to fend for themselves against the most vicious criminals lurking among the masses.”

MADISONVILLE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today penned this op-ed in the Ouachita Citizen arguing that the failed border policies of the Biden-Harris administration have left Louisianians less safe. Kennedy detailed several examples of crime in Louisiana that could have been prevented by a secure border.

Key excerpts of the op-ed are below:

“Some of the most violent gangs in the world are looking for new turf, and the Biden-Harris administration’s open border policies have made the United States a destination.

“All over the country, law enforcement officers are responding to crimes committed by members of foreign criminal organizations such as El Salvador’s MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gangs. These men are the worst of the worst, and some have already begun to appear in Louisiana.”

. . .

“From day one, President Biden and his border czar Kamala Harris have embraced the radical policies of the loon wing of their party, and they rolled out the welcome mat for more than 10 million unvetted foreign nationals to enter the United States.

“They promised to give health care coverage to illegal immigrants during their campaigns. They made illegal immigration easier with nearly 300 executive orders during their first year in office. They ended Title 42. They destroyed the Remain in Mexico policy. They disparaged our border patrol officers. They gave migrants phones, flights and hotel rooms. I could go on.

“Someone writing a how-to guide for illegal immigrant recruitment couldn’t have dreamed up this bad policy playbook.”

. . .

“It’s hard not to conclude that the Biden-Harris administration created this mess intentionally. They opened the border in hopes of getting more votes, and they left Louisianians and Americans to fend for themselves against the most vicious criminals lurking among the masses.

“Louisianians have had enough of the Biden-Harris administration’s border betrayal, and they won’t forget it.”

Governor Landry Signs Executive Order Preventing the Use of Critical Race Theory in Public Schools

Baton Rouge, LA- Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order preventing the use of critical race theory in Louisiana’s K-12 public education system. Executive order attached.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) includes divisive teachings that instruct students to view life through the lens of race and victimhood. Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual.

“This executive order is a much-needed sigh of relief for parents and students across our state, especially as kids are heading back to school. Teaching children that they are currently or destined to be oppressed or to be an oppressor based on their race and origin is wrong and has no place in our Louisiana classrooms. I am confident that under Dr. Brumley’s leadership our education system will continue to head in the right direction, prioritizing American values and common-sense teachings,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

Kennedy on third anniversary of Afghanistan withdrawal: Biden-Harris admin “delivered terrorists biggest win in years”

“Neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris has ever apologized. Not once. As we reflect on this anniversary, I want to remind the American people and the people of the Louisiana that this devastating withdrawal didn't have to happen. . . . We didn't need to lose those 13 brave men and women. We didn't need to abandon our military base and give American Black Hawks to the Taliban, who want to kill Americans, who want to hurt us the entire time we're dying and then want to drink our blood out of a boot.”

Watch Kennedy’s statement here:

MADISONVILLE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today issued the following statement on the third anniversary of the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. The ill-advised withdrawal left 13 American service members dead and countless Americans stranded under Taliban-rule. The Biden-Harris administration’s withdrawal also allowed the Taliban to gain control of more than $7 billion of U.S. military equipment which included Humvees, attack aircraft, drones and small arms.

“It is a sad day for many American veterans and their families. Today marks three years since the Biden-Harris administration's botched withdrawal—botched withdrawal—from Afghanistan. What an embarrassment.

“Thirteen of our bravest men and women died that day—Americans. Several more troops sustained injuries, and the thousands of American veterans who fought so valiantly in Afghanistan had to witness the Biden-Harris administration make a mockery of their hard work by leaving the country in chaos.

“Neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris has ever apologized. Not once. As we reflect on this anniversary, I want to remind the American people and the people of Louisiana that this devastating withdrawal didn't have to happen. It did not have to happen. We didn't need to lose those 13 brave men and women. We didn't need to abandon our military base and give American Black Hawks to the Taliban, who want to kill Americans, who want to hurt us the entire time we're dying and then want to drink our blood out of a boot.

“None of that had to happen. This all happened because of stunning incompetence. . . . [T]his was caused by the stunning incompetence of the Biden-Harris administration, and that's just a fact. President Biden and Vice President Harris ignored every single warning from their top generals, and they announced to the world that we'd be out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11th.

“They knew it was a bad idea. They had to. And they did it anyway. They ignored those who knew better, and, by ignoring those who knew better, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris delivered these terrorists their biggest win in years—in years. . . .

“[W]hat they did makes me want to heave. I am so sorry for the pain this chaotic withdrawal caused to our brave veterans and to the American people. They deserve better. We all deserve better, and, on this issue, President Biden and Vice President Harris should hide their heads in a bag.”

Higgins Releases Preliminary Investigative Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA), a member of the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, released his preliminary investigative report, candidly discussing some of his objective findings following his “boots on the ground” trip to Butler, PA on August 4th, 5th and 6th.

The preliminary investigative report was submitted to Task Force Chairman Mike Kelly (R-PA) on August 12, 2024. The document was intended to foster discussion amongst Task Force members. It has been embargoed for several days pending authorization to release from the Task Force chain of command.

“As I have said, every question will be answered, every theory explored, and every doubt erased. The American people deserve the full truth on the attempted assassination of President Trump,” said Congressman Higgins. “Our investigative efforts are moving forward in good faith. The release of my preliminary investigative report is reflective of my desire to deliver transparency and reassurance to the American people.”

The preliminary report details some of Congressman Higgins’ findings thus far. However, it is not exhaustive, nor final.

Notable observations include:

  • “U.S. Secret Service did not retrieve the radios that had been set aside for them by Butler County tactical command. The radio comms were properly and perfectly arranged during the extensive pre-mission planning.”

  • “All 8 casings (from shots fired by Crooks) were recovered and are allegedly in proper possession of the FBI.”

  • “The 9th shot fired on J13 was from a Butler SWAT operator from the ground about 100 yards away from the AGR building. Shot 9 hit Crooks’ rifle stock and fragged his face/neck/right shoulder area from the stock breaking up.”

  • “The 10th (and, I believe, final) shot was fired from the southern counter-sniper team.”

  • “My effort to examine Crooks’ body on Monday, August 5, caused quite a stir and revealed a disturbing fact… the FBI released the body for cremation 10 days after J13.”

  • “The water tower was cleared by drone J13 AM by the County tactical commander, ESU Commander Lenz himself.”

OPINION: Biden’s Cancer Moonshot is Laudable

President Joe Biden’s recent visit to New Orleans highlighted his Cancer Moonshot initiative which aims to cut cancer death rates in half by 2047.

The President’s goal is laudable, but meeting it will require greater leadership from this Administration and the next one in embracing new strategies to further reduce cigarette smoking, which is still responsible for nine out of 10 of all lung cancer deaths.

First, the Administration must act to clear the current backlog of millions of reduced-risk, smoke-free products awaiting authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Second, the Administration’s health experts must do a better job of communicating with the public and medical professionals about the misperceptions surrounding these products, which have been scientifically shown to be a significantly better option than combustible cigarettes.

The good news is that youth smoking is at an all-time low and cigarette smoking among adults has declined substantially over the past twenty years. One reason for this decline is the availability of tobacco harm reduction products, such as pouches and other smoke-free alternatives. The government should be making it easier, not more difficult, for smokers to access these products.

If President Biden and his successor are serious about their cancer moonshot, these small steps would represent a giant leap in the right direction.

Rep. Geymann commentary: Carbon capture, sequestration efforts in La. important

In today’s rapidly evolving energy landscape, carbon capture and storage (CCS) is more than just a buzzword—it’s a critical component of our future. As the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, I am dedicated to ensuring a positive economic impact in our state. By advocating for a robust energy sector and positioning Louisiana ahead of our competitors in the industry, we can achieve this goal. Louisiana’s leadership in CCS efforts not only highlights our commitment to the energy sector and its workforce but also ensures our continued relevance in the global energy market. CCS is the natural evolution of the oil and gas industry. By embracing this transition and committing to doing it safely, we are securing jobs for our current workforce and creating new opportunities for future generations.

Kennedy in the American Press: Biden-Harris administration’s anti-energy policies terrible for Louisiana

“Apparently, President Biden and Vice President Harris would rather see LNG exported from the Kremlin than Louisiana.”

MADISONVILLE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, penned this op-ed in the American Press detailing how the Biden-Harris administration’s anti-energy policies have harmed Louisiana. Kennedy also explained how he has helped push back against these damaging policies.

Key excerpts of the op-ed are below:

“If there were a contest to design the worst possible energy policies for Louisiana, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris would win by a mile.

“Their administration’s breathtakingly dumb energy agenda is killing Louisiana jobs, driving up prices, and draining America’s emergency fuel reserves.

“In January, for example, the Biden-Harris administration followed the advice of TikTok activists and paused all new permits for liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminals. The permit prohibition has jeopardized several Louisiana facilities and thousands of jobs, including those at the Calcasieu Pass 2 export terminal in Cameron Parish.

“The LNG permit pause also makes it more difficult for our allies to get American natural gas. Under this administration’s watch, Russia recently surpassed the United States to become the European Union’s top LNG supplier. Apparently, President Biden and Vice President Harris would rather see LNG exported from the Kremlin than Louisiana.”

. . .

“My work in Congress will help mitigate some of the damage the Biden-Harris administration has caused in Louisiana, but the best way to get out of this hole is to stop digging.

“Louisianians and indeed all Americans are beginning to understand that the voting booth is the only place they can go to restore common sense and stop the Biden-Harris administration’s awful energy policies.”

Kennedy, Rubio: “Dictator Nicolás Maduro has once again stolen a presidential election”

“To no one’s surprise, dictator Nicolás Maduro has once again stolen a presidential election. However, what the narco-regime will never steal is the Venezuelan people’s desire to return to democracy and live in freedom after decades of tyranny.”

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today joined Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) along with Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Michael Bennett (D-Colo.) and Reps. Carlos Giménez (R-Fla.), Jenniffer González-Colón (R-P.R.), María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) in releasing a joint statement regarding authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro’s illegitimate claim of victory in Venezuela’s presidential election.

The senators’ statement is below:

“To no one’s surprise, dictator Nicolás Maduro has once again stolen a presidential election. However, what the narco-regime will never steal is the Venezuelan people’s desire to return to democracy and live in freedom after decades of tyranny. We must prioritize uniting the free world in rejecting these sham election results and securing the release of the more than 300 Venezuelans that remain arbitrarily detained in torture centers as political prisoners.

“The Maduro dictatorship is experiencing an internal fracture, and members of the dictatorship know their status quo, which is filled with incompetence, is no longer sustainable. There is massive discontent in the streets of Venezuela, and everyday citizens have stood in support of opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez. Let there be no doubt: the countries and international organizations backing this fraud of unimaginable proportions must be held accountable, as should members of the narco-regime and its ‘National Electoral Council.’”

According to reporting, “independent exit polling and partial results” suggest “González captured twice as many votes as Maduro.” Despite these reports and international concern, Maduro declared victory on Monday.

Background:

  • In February, in retaliation to U.S. sanctions, the Maduro regime halted the deportation of Venezuelans who came into America illegally.

  • Kennedy introduced the No Dollars for Dictators Act to prevent taxpayer money from flowing to perpetrators of genocide and state sponsors of terrorism, including Nicolás Maduro.

  • Kennedy has repeatedly called on the Biden-Harris administration to unleash American energy production so that the U.S. does not need to rely on foreign adversaries, including Venezuela, for oil.

THE REAL TRUMP PLATFORM

THE REAL TRUMP PLATFORM – Kamala Harris can’t run on her disastrous record, and she can’t run against President Trump’s historic record of accomplishment. So what does she do? Lie.

Enter the Lie Of The Year: Kamala Harris’s claim that it’s “Trump’s Project 2025.

Project 2025 is not President Trump’s agenda. You’d think that a candidate already facing serious questions about her central role in lying about Biden’s cognitive decline wouldn’t base her entire campaign on another lie, but here we are.

Every time you hear Harris or Democrats say, “Project 2025 is the Trump Agenda,” they are lying.  Not only has President Trump said that Project 2025 is not his agenda repeatedly, including explicitly disavowing it, but USA Today also fact checked this bogus claim, labeling it as false:  “Project 2025 is a political playbook created by the Heritage Foundation and dozens of other conservative groups, not Trump.”

For those interested in the truth, here is President Trump’s real platform:

These 20 promises are a unifying proposal to Make America Great Again. Given the popularity and success of these ideas, it’s no wonder Harris has resorted to simply making things up. For more information on President Trump’s and the RNC’s platform, go to: http://DonaldjTrump.com/platform.

Kennedy statement on Israel, Netanyahu address

“Hamas is working with Iran, and Iran is hellbent on developing a nuclear weapon and pointing it at America and our allies. . . . America needs to keep supporting Israel as it destroys Hamas and working with Israel to defeat Tehran’s terrorism and its evil aspirations definitively. I’m thankful that Prime Minister Netanyahu came to join us in that effort today.”

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today released the following statement upon attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech was exceptional. Unfortunately, mere months after the October 7 massacre, some people in Washington still seem confused about why America supports Israel. Too many people—many of whom descended on the Capitol today—still apparently believe in diversity, equity, inclusion and the right to kill Jews. That bloodlust has never been—and will never be—what most Americans believe.

“Louisiana still understands that the debased people who slaughtered more than 300 young people at a peaceful music festival are the bad guys. The odious men who raped women next to the bodies of their dead friends don't deserve to be on this planet. The evil we saw unfold when Hamas butchered Israeli civilians is indefensible. And we all saw it.

“Hamas terrorists brutalized thousands of people, including Americans. Hamas is still holding eight Americans in Gaza. We believe five of our fellow citizens being held there are still alive. President Biden and Vice President Harris need to bring them home, and every day until then they need to condemn the Hamas terrorists who have murdered, kidnapped and abused our fellow Americans

“Israel has both the right and the responsibility to defend itself. This world will be a safer place for Americans and Israelis alike when Hamas ceases to exist.

“Let's not forget that Hamas are the wicked people who are using civilians as human shields. Hamas are the bloodthirsty people who dug up their people’s water pipes to turn them into rocket launchers.

“The truth is that the Palestinian people, the people of Gaza and the Israeli people all suffer because of Hamas. The truth is that Hamas brutalized Israeli citizens and then ran home to hide behind their women and children, using them as human shields.

“The only way to stop the cycle is to eliminate Hamas. Hamas doesn't want a permanent cease fire. After all, they had that on October 6. Hamas wants America, Israel and every decent person on earth to let them catch their breath so that they can reload and take aim again at innocent Americans and Israelis.

“Hamas is working with Iran, and Iran is hellbent on developing a nuclear weapon and pointing it at America and our allies. Iran is the author of chaotic, senseless suffering across the Middle East, and Tehran wants nothing more than to annihilate Israel and take its terrorism global. America needs to keep supporting Israel as it destroys Hamas and working with Israel to defeat Tehran’s terrorism and its evil aspirations definitively. I’m thankful that Prime Minister Netanyahu came to join us in that effort today.”

OPINION: Opposition to Credit Card Competition Act

I am writing as a concerned resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, to express my strong opposition to Democrat Senator Dick Durbin's Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA). If this law is passed, it will have severe repercussions for our community's access to affordable air travel and could endanger the sustainability of our local airport.

In Lafayette, our flight options are already limited and often come with a high price. Many of us rely on credit card rewards earned through co-branded airline cards to make air travel feasible. These reward programs are vital for us, enabling visits to family, pursuing career opportunities, and supporting our local economy through tourism.

The potential elimination of these reward programs, as major airlines fear due to the CCCA, could lead to less activity in our local market. This shift would not only inconvenience us but also pose a significant risk to the viability of our local airport.

Regional airports like Lafayette Regional Airport are essential for connecting our community to the wider world. They are crucial for local businesses, tourism, and overall economic growth. Let’s not pass any legislation that would stifle this important fixture of our community.

We need Senator Kennedy and Senator Cassidy to oppose the CCCA and focus on solutions that promote healthy competition without undermining the accessibility of air travel for communities like ours. Preserving credit card rewards programs is critical for maintaining affordable flight options and ensuring the sustainability of regional airports.

Sincerely,

Rob Broussard

Kennedy to Louisianians following assassination attempt on Pres. Trump: “The American people deserve answers” and “We’ll figure this out together”

“. . . the American people deserve answers to that, but let's wait and get the facts. . . . We'll figure this out together. In the meantime, let’s all respect each other’s humanity.”

Watch Kennedy’s full statement here.

MADISONVILLE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today made the following statement regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa.

“Why? That's what most Americans are asking themselves today, ‘Why did President Trump almost lose his life?’

“First, there aren’t words in English, it seems to me, to describe how horrible the attempt on President Trump's life was. I know it could’ve been worse, but it was really, really bad. And, inevitably, Americans today, as I said, are asking themselves, ‘Why?’

“Look, America hasn't been happy for a while, and this crosses all political spectrums. It costs more to live in our country today. Many people on both sides of the political spectrum are upset about the open border. Crime is . . . still bad. People are scared. They see the rise of China and the rise of Iran and the rise of Russia, and they instinctively know that [those regimes’] domination creates a world that's not safe for democracy or America. And this has led to disagreement in our politics. That disagreement is inevitable.

“It's been especially sharp because I think it reflects two things: It reflects the unhappiness that I've talked about, but it also reflects the fact that all Americans, they care deeply about their families, and they care deeply about their country.

“I don't have an answer for why, but what I will respectfully suggest is that we wait and try to figure out why together. Don't make assumptions. Don't jump to conclusions. I've already heard some people saying, ‘Well, the shooter was left-wing,’ or ‘the shooter was a right-winger,’ or ‘it was all political.’ We just don't know. Maybe he wasn’t left-wing or right-wing. Maybe he was just a broken wing. Maybe he was a nut. Maybe he was mentally ill.

“I've also seen people pointing fingers at our government officials about how could they have allowed this to happen. Well, the American people deserve answers to that, but let's wait and get the facts.

“So, I just wanted to say that—it was in my head and on my heart—to the people of America and the people of Louisiana: We'll figure this out together. In the meantime, let’s all respect each other’s humanity.”

Sen. Kennedy continues to pray for the loved ones of Corey Comperatore, who attended the rally with his family and died while protecting his wife and daughter.

“Becky and I are praying for the family of the attendee who died this evening at Pres. Trump’s rally as well as for the quick recovery of all others who are injured. Political violence has no place in America,” said Kennedy Saturday as he thanked God for protecting Pres. Trump and others that evening.

TRUMP MOMENTUM

“Trump Widens Lead After Biden’s Debate Debacle” read The New York Times headline, and the headline was right (a welcome change from The New York Times)!

In fact, a series of polls show President Trump with a commanding lead over Joe Biden and any Democrat that may take his place. The Democrats are even in a place where they are bragging about polls showing them losing. As we mentioned earlier this week, President Trump is playing offense all over the electoral map. This isn’t just about Crooked Joe Biden. The Democrats have failed our country, and in November, Americans will hold them responsible at the ballot box.
