Congressional Democrats are one step closer to passing their trillion-dollar "Build Back Better" spending package.
On July 6 U.S. Senate leaders hashed out a key proposal that would allow Medicare to "negotiate" with pharmaceutical companies over prescription drug prices.
The effort is part of Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer's, D- N.Y., drive to coax centrist Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W. Va., into voting for the huge spending bill.
But what Democrats are contemplating is actually a de facto system of price controls — and it would destroy the market for drug research.

President Joe Biden is set to visit Saudi Arabia later this week, on a trip he says is intended to shore up global supply chains and encourage diplomacy and cooperation.
But the question many are asking is: What could it mean for gas prices?
That’s because Saudi Arabia has the second-largest oil reserves in the world — and the U.S. has made it clear it wants all the Persian Gulf's oil states to boost their output. The conventional wisdom is that more oil produced means cheaper gas at the pump.
The reality is more complicated.

Peterson, an outspoken champion of liberal causes, had been a state senator for 12 years before her resignation earlier this year, and before that she spent a decade in the House. She lost a 2021 congressional race to U.S. Rep. Troy Carter.
If Peterson acknowledges steering money intended for the struggling Louisiana Democratic Party to her own use, it will add considerably to the controversy around her eight-year tenure as party chair, from 2012 to 2020.

In true gutless, Louisiana political fashion, a majority of those that “serve” the citizens of the state decided to stay home and do nothing to fight back against a liberal Governor. The head of Louisiana State Police (LSP) was stopped for speeding along a dangerous stretch of a Louisiana interstate last month, a state police spokesman confirmed Thursday, July 7.
Col. Lamar Davis was driving an unmarked Louisiana State Police vehicle to a meeting in Lake Charles when an LSP trooper pulled him over on June 28 on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge along Interstate 10 near Ramah.

“The Biden administration sold roughly one million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to a Chinese state-controlled gas giant that continues to purchase Russian oil, a move the Energy Department said would ‘support American consumers’ and combat ‘Putin’s price hike,'” the Beacon’s Collin Anderson reported. “Biden’s Energy Department in April announced the sale of 950,000 Strategic Petroleum Reserve barrels to Unipec, the trading arm of the China Petrochemical Corporation. That company, which is commonly known as Sinopec, is wholly owned by the Chinese government.”
Sinopec is also tied to Hunter Biden, whose private equity firm, BHR Partners, bought a $1.7 billion stake in the company seven years ago.

BATON ROUGE, LA (June 30, 2022) - Today, The United States Supreme Court ruled that the Clean Power Plan implemented under President Obama that sought to administratively determine power sector emission levels exceeded executive authority under the Clean Air Act.
In response, LOGA President Mike Moncla issued the following statement:
“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is a step in the right direction for our great nation. This decision takes governmental overreach from appointed bureaucrats and puts it back into the hands of legislators.
The EPA’s actions and regulations have been in lockstep with the left wing’s green agenda. These types of actions cost Americans at the pump, as they continue to tighten the noose on producers and refiners, making it harder to drill for oil and gas, and more expensive to refine it. We applaud this Supreme Court decision and look forward to more balanced decisions toward our industry in the future.”
In its opinion for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the majority of Supreme Court Justices agreed with Attorney General Jeff Landry – declaring that Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood were wrongly decided. In response, Attorney General Landry issued the following statement:
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad. Today, along with millions across Louisiana and America, I rejoice with my departed Mom and the unborn children with her in Heaven!

Today is the day that pro-lifers have anticipated for 50 years and I have worked for my entire adult life! Finally, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has restored justice and overturned the egregious decision of Roe v. Wade with its Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.
Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.
ALITO, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which THOMAS, GORSUCH, KAVANAUGH, and BARRETT, JJ., joined. THOMAS, J., and KAVANAUGH, J., filed concurring opinions. ROBERTS, C. J., filed an opinion concurring in the judgment. BREYER, SOTOMAYOR, and KAGAN, JJ., filed a dissenting opinion.
The court has rejected the erroneous narrative that a “right” to abortion exists in the U.S. Constitution, meaning individual states are at liberty to establish jurisdiction and limits over abortion. LFF’s efforts to protect the unborn are no longer hindered by a fraudulent and misguided Supreme Court ruling which invented a non-existent “right.”
This is a monumental victory for LFF’s “Respect Life Ethic” and warrants celebration. We should praise God for answered prayer and the termination of the legal nightmare that was Roe.
The legal trigger mechanism is set to take effect – in Louisiana, abortion is banned! In twenty-six states, robust protections for the unborn are in effect.
While this is a major victory, LFF’s work is far from complete. The court has done its job, but it cannot do ours. We are simply entering a new phase of the struggle for life. The “culture of death” that Roe fostered needs to be systematically deconstructed.
Abortion now must be made unthinkable. Only through compassionate outreach, intentional education, and principled advocacy will hearts and minds be transformed so that life may be protected at every stage of development.
Now we must exercise extraordinary compassion toward every expecting mother in unplanned and difficult circumstances. Churches and their members must offer help and hope to abortion-vulnerable women. We must fortify pregnancy care centers by adopting them as a charitable cause, direct assistance to moms in need, and walk with those that are in need.
LFF will speak the truth in love about the unborn and create a culture of deep care for all life in Louisiana and beyond. Debates surrounding this decision will become more intense, and we need to be prepared to defend the sanctity of life at all times.
Because of this decision, some will resort to acts of violence, as they have pledged to do. Proponents of the respect life ethic will face challenges like never before. Stand firm in the truth and remember, the incoming flack is because we are directly over an imperative target.
