Governors Landry & Sununu Announce the Governors' Coalition for Energy Choice

BATON ROUGE, LA – Addressing one of the fastest-growing strains on family finances, Governor Jeff Landry (LA) and Governor Chris Sununu (NH) have formed a new organization to help Americans tackle the high costs of energy and accelerating energy cost inflation. The Governors' Coalition for Energy Choice will help state leaders formulate smart energy policies that will benefit working families, businesses, and our communities. Governors Landry and Sununu are joined by eight of their colleagues: Governor Kemp (GA), Governor Lee (TN), Governor Holcomb (IN), Governor Gordon (WY), Governor Huckabee Sanders (AR), Governor Noem (SD), Governor Stitt (OK), Governor Youngkin (VA).

“Everyone wants reliable energy, whether that be electricity, heating and cooling, and transportation. One thing is clear—states that enhance energy choice also enjoy lower energy costs, increase reliability, and attract businesses and employment opportunities,” Gov. Landry said. “As Governor of a major energy producing state, I know that it is important to sustain those trends for the benefit of residents and businesses. I look forward to working with my fellow governors in the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Choice.”

“High energy costs driven by government regulation are crushing middle income families already burdened by inflation. These families deserve affordable and reliable energy,” Gov. Sununu said. “Here in New Hampshire, we have kept energy prices in line by embracing fuel choice and minimizing expensive mandates.  I am excited to take what we have learned to help other states across the country.”

The two Governors have reached out to over 24 fellow Governors total across the country to invite them to join this effort. The goals of the organization are to ensure continued energy choice, minimize permitting and other regulatory barriers, limit expensive energy mandates, focus on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure, and coordinate to positively manage energy resources and the environment.

At a time when every family in America is feeling the impacts of inflation, it is imperative for state leaders to ensure energy policies are focused on affordability, reliability, and good stewardship. That is how the best-performing states foster economic opportunity and improve the lives of their citizens. Governor Landry Signs Executive Order Preventing the Use of Critical Race Theory in Public Schools

Baton Rouge, LA- Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order preventing the use of critical race theory in Louisiana’s K-12 public education system. Executive order attached. 

Critical Race Theory (CRT) includes divisive teachings that instruct students to view life through the lens of race and victimhood. Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual. 

“This executive order is a much-needed sigh of relief for parents and students across our state, especially as kids are heading back to school. Teaching children that they are currently or destined to be oppressed or to be an oppressor based on their race and origin is wrong and has no place in our Louisiana classrooms. I am confident that under Dr. Brumley’s leadership our education system will continue to head in the right direction, prioritizing American values and common-sense teachings,” said Governor Jeff Landry. 

Governor Landry Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Firefighter Corey Comperatore

Baton Rouge, LA- Today, Governor Jeff Landry signed an Executive Order to fly flags at half-staff for Corey Comperatore who was killed at a Pennsylvania rally for Donald J. Trump. The flags of the United States and the State of Louisiana shall be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on July 18, 2024. Executive Order is attached.

On July 13, 2024, former fire chief Corey Comperatore lost his life when he shielded his family with his own body when shots rang out from the rooftop of a nearby building. He dedicated his life to serving his country as a United States Army Reserve soldier and a fire chief at the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department. He will be laid to rest today, July 18, 2024, in Freeport, Pennsylvania, with friends and family honoring his legacy. 

“Exercising our First Amendment rights should never come at the cost of the ultimate sacrifice, even when attending a political rally. Mr. Comperatore is a hero, and Louisiana is proud to honor him today and every day for his selfless acts,” said Governor Landry.

Gov. Landry Supports Gov. Abbott’s Request & Announces Operation Lone Star Extended to Include Engineer Support

Will use unspent money from pre-approved fund 

Baton Rouge, LA- Today, Governor Jeff Landry announced with the support of Senate President Cameron Henry, Speaker Phillip Devillier, Brig. Gen. Thomas Friloux, and GOHSEP Director Jacques Thibodeaux that Operation Lone Star is being extended. During the initial mission that ended earlier this month, the LANG spent approximately $2.2 million of the $3 million previously approved. As such, Texas submitted an additional request for engineer soldiers that will utilize the remaining $800,000. The LANG will remain in Texas until mid-November when the final contingent of Soldiers begins movement back to Louisiana. Attached are letters from Governor Landry and Speaker DeVillier and President Henry.

“As the Biden Administration repeatedly ignores the crisis on our southern border, the Louisiana National Guard continues to step up and assist our neighbors in Texas as they work to protect our citizens and secure our country’s border. I am grateful to the Louisiana National Guard for their hard work defending and securing our nation’s border,” said Governor Jeff Landry. 

“We strongly support the continuation of the Louisiana National Guard’s aid to the State of Texas through Operation Lone Star with the remaining $800,000 from the legislature’s initial allocation of $3 million. LA FREEDOM CAUCUS THANKS GOV. JEFF LANDRY FOR SIGNING 10 COMMANDMENTS BILL INTO LAW

BATON ROUGE—The Louisiana Freedom Caucus is grateful to Gov. Jeff Landry for signing the Ten Commandments bill into law. This is not only a religious document, but also the foundational document of the time-honored legal traditions of the entirety of Western Civilization.

“The Ten Commandments comprise the very foundation of our laws in America today. They are a vital part of the American creed,” said the bill’s author Rep. Dodie Horton, founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “Given all of the junk our children are exposed to in the classrooms today, it is imperative that we put the Ten Commandments back into its historic position.”

“The Ten Commandments were the primary force in American education for nearly three centuries before a reckless 1980 court decision, Lemon vs. Kurtzman, blocked teaching this history in classrooms,” Horton continued. “The very first school textbook in America included the Ten Commandments and was published in 1690, the New England Primer. It was used throughout the United States and became the textbook of American education.”

“This law is the first of its kind in America since the 1980 Lemon case was rightly overturned. We have every confidence that it will survive legal scrutiny,” Horton said.

Governor Landry Signs “Dream Big” Education Plan into Law

Bold change now, to improve our education system 

Lafayette, LA- Today, surrounded by legislators, educators, school kids, and community leaders, Governor Jeff Landry signed into law monumental bills that will transform our education system and bring back common sense in our classrooms.  

Governor signed the LA Gator Scholarship Program into law, which ensures every child has the opportunity of a great education, regardless of where they live. Governor Landry’s Louisiana GATOR (Give All a True Opportunity to Rise) scholarships will allow parents to choose the school that best suits their child’s needs. GATOR Scholarships provide parents with a scholarship account that allows them to customize their child’s education. These scholarship accounts can be used for school tuition and fees, tutoring, educational therapies, textbooks and curricula, dual enrollment courses, uniforms, and transportation.

Gov. Landry Announces Unprecedented Partnerships to Revitalize Metro New Orleans for Improved Quality of Life and Special Events—Including Super Bowl LIX

New Orleans, La—After a series of meetings dating back to the transition, Gov. Jeff Landry has formed historical partnerships between the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans to revitalize the infrastructure of Metro New Orleans. In order to undertake this project, Gov. Landry has directed the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the Division of Administration (DOA) and Louisiana Economic Development (LED) to work closely with Mayor Cantrell, CAO Gilbert Montero, the New Orleans Department of Public Works and associated city agencies, SWBNO, LSED, ASM, Downtown Development District, New Orleans Convention Center, French Quarter Management District, Jefferson Parish, Office of the Lt. Gov. and others.  

“New Orleans is a first-class city, and we need to ensure that we are putting our best infrastructure and economic development foot forward as we welcome thousands of visitors for Super Bowl LIX. Economic Development:

City/State Infrastructure Projects:

“Starting with the NFL Hand-Off event with Commissioner Goodell, the City of New Orleans appreciates the Leadership of Governor Jeff Landry, Saints Owner Gayle Benson and the full Louisiana Super Bowl support team,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “We look forward to continuing our unified partnership to achieve the “greater good” championship approach that will represent the State of Louisiana and City of New Orleans to score a winning gameplan for Super Bowl LIX.”

Specific projects include: 

1. The relighting of the Crescent City Connection(CCC). The CCC’s decorative lighting system was destroyed by Hurricane Ida which created a safety hazard for both shipping and motorists. DOTD’s electrical contractor has already begun the relighting process by removing the existing system and will replace it with a modern LED type presentation. Traffic delays are anticipated as a result of this work, but the planned lane closures will conclude by the end of August of this year.   

2. The refurbishment/improvement of highway lighting from the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to the CCC. Jefferson Parish, the City of New Orleans and DOTD have embarked on a comprehensive effort to restore or replace Interstate highway lighting from the airport to the CCC, as well as on key sections of Interstate 10 stretches from the Twin Spans to the downtown New Orleans area. 

3. Verizon, AT&T, and Cox (working collaboratively with Entergy) are undertaking significant improvements to bring 5G wireless and data to the entire downtown New Orleans area. As is the case with many of these improvements, these will remain in place long after the Super Bowl; thus enhancing quality of life across the metro area. 

4. The DOTD is currently overseeing a project to repair structural issues at the Senator Ted Hickey Bridge, which is located adjacent to the Lakefront Airport near Hayne Blvd.  The repairs are anticipated to be completed by September of this year, weather permitting.  The repairs are needed after the bridge was recently struck by a marine vessel.  

5. Poydras (Convention Center Blvd - S Claiborne), Poydras (S Galvez to S Claiborne), N. Maestri Place (St Charles Ave to Camp Street), S. Maestri Place (St Charles Ave to Camp Street), Chartres Street (Canal Street to Esplanade Ave), Frenchman Street (Esplanade Ave to Royal Street) and Dumaine Street have been identified as needing substantial repairs and improvements. This work has commenced or will commence soon. 

6. All catch basin and culvert clearing  in the downtown area will be addressed by both DOTD and the Sewage and Water Board New Orleans.  Sub-surface water leaks will be repaired by S&WB of New Orleans.  

7. Elevated Interstate barriers walls and substructure bridge piers in the Downtown area will be power washed. Roads and bridges in the area will continue to be swept for litter and other large debris within and adjacent to the highway right-of-way.    

8. The Department of Health, Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife and City of New Orleans Health staff will be conducting sweeps to ensure food safety and to remove ‘pop up bars’ and unlicensed food service operators. The agents will continue to confiscate and remove unpermitted animals out of the French Quarter.

9. A comprehensive cleaning/power washing throughout the downtown area-roads, bridges, facades, sidewalks etc. 

A weekly status meeting with all city and state stakeholders has been established to drive and coordinate Super Bowl efforts. 

Louisiana Set to Pass Bill Giving Judges Option to Order Surgical Castration for Sex Offenders

Louisiana could be the first state to give judges the option to order surgical castration as part of the sentencing for serious sex offenders. The state legislature passed a bill that is awaiting Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry’s signature. The punishment would be optional for judges to apply to either men or women if they have been convicted of an aggravated sex crime against a child under 13.

Insurance

HB 315: Extends prescription on tort actions.

HB 120: Repeals the sunset on the Louisiana fortified homes program.

HB 611: Phases out the 3-year-rule, allowing more competition in the insurance market.

SB 295: Provides an open invitation for insurance companies to do business in Louisiana.

SB 323: Streamlines the insurance claim process.

Public Safety

HB 720: Adds the crime of distribution of fentanyl where the fentanyl or packaging of the fentanyl is designed to resemble branded prescription medication or its generic equivalent.

SB 377: Prohibits the possession or concealed carrying of a firearm by any person who was adjudicated at age 15 or 16 of a felony-grade delinquent act, until that person turns 22 years old or has been accepted into the United States Military or Louisiana National Guard. Similar legislation was previously vetoed by John Bel Edwards.

SB 105: Increases the penalty for the crime of attempted possession of a firearm by a felon.

HB 208: Increases penalties for strangulation in domestic violence cases.

HB 541, HB 138, and HB 12: Expands the crime of nonconsensual disclosure of a private image to include when an identifiable victim is engaged in a “sexual performance” and includes images stolen from someone’s phone. 

HB 451: Provides for the crime of retail theft. Similar legislation was previously vetoed by John Bel Edwards.

HB 173: Creates the crime of approaching a police officer lawfully engaged in duty. Similar legislation was previously vetoed by John Bel Edwards.

HB 268: Maintains the confidentiality of the First Family’s security details and of public employees’ personal information.

SCR 21: Memorializes Congress to support the nation of Israel.

SB 184: Increases penalties for aggravated flight from an officer. 

SB 220: Allows impounding of vehicles used in drag racing.

HB 206: Provides mechanisms for district attorneys to seek release on supervised probation for dangerous but no longer mentally-ill insanity acquitees. 

SB 388: Creates crime of unlawful entry into Louisiana by illegal aliens.

HB 776: Updates and expands DWI law to include impairment by any drug or substance.

SB 313: Creates the LA GATOR Education Scholarship Account program for parental choice in K-12 education.

HB 320: Repeals certain student instruction and teacher training requirements.

Historic Louisiana Gator Scholarship Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

Baton Rouge, LA- Today, Senate Bill 313 which creates the Louisiana Giving All True Opportunity to Rise (LA GATOR) program passed the legislature and now heads to Governor Landry’s desk. It begins the phase-in of Education Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) for K-12 schools by the year 2025. ESAs empower parents and students across our state to choose a learning environment that best fits their family’s needs and aligns with their values.

“I made a pledge to enact bold change that improves our education system. Today, with the legislature’s help, we did just that. The LA Gator Program puts parents in the driver’s seat and gives every child the opportunity for a great education. Governor Landry Declares State of Emergency Following Deadly Storms

Baton Rouge, LA- Governor Jeff Landry signed a State of Emergency Declaration for the severe storms and tornadoes which took place May 14-17 across the state. This declaration will permit state resources to assist in the recovery process for affected parishes. Emergency declaration attached.

“Today, we issued a State of Emergency to ensure those parishes affected most by the deadly storms are able to get the help they need for a full recovery. We continue to remain in contact with local officials and will do all we can to deploy the necessary assistance and resources,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

Baton Rouge, LA– Today, Governor Jeff Landry announced the appointment of the Interim Mayor and Chief of Police for the  city of St. George.

“Chief Morris and Mayor Yates have the experience needed to fill these roles—especially during this important time of transition. I look forward to the work they will do to ensure St. George is a safe and thriving community,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

"I am extremely humbled to be appointed by Governor Landry to lead this newly created city as the interim Mayor. Our goal will be to ensure a timely transition that will set up the City of St. George for long term success,” said Mayor Dustin Yates.

“I would like to thank Governor Landry for this appointment and trusting in me. I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as the first Chief of Police for the City of St. George. I have called this community home for the past 40 years. I am excited to bring my 34 years of law enforcement experience to serve the citizens of St. George. I am committed to working collaboratively with our residents, business owners, Sheriff Gautreaux and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, as well as the community leaders to ensure St. George is a safe, welcoming, and thriving city for all,” said Chief of Police Todd Morris.

Mayor Dustin Yates

Dustin Yates age 44. Born and raised in New Orleans where he attended and graduated from Jesuit High School. He continued his education at the University of New Orleans and graduated in 2002 with a B.A. in Education. He taught and coached in public school for four years before entering the fire service with the St. George Fire Department. He is currently serving his 19th year with the St. George Fire Department where he held the positions of Firefighter/Operator, Lieutenant, and Chief Administrative Officer. He continued his education with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, and also graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Maryland. He has been involved with the City of St. George dating back to the original petition drive in 2013. He is married to Allison for 18 years, and they have two children, Avery (16) and Bennett (14). They are parishioners at St. George Catholic Church.  

Chief of Police Todd Morris

Todd Morris has 34 years of experience in law enforcement. He serves as the Chief of Crimes against Persons and Special Operations for East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. The Divisions he oversees include Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit, General Detectives, Sex Offender Registration, Crime Scene, DNA Analysts, Rapid DNA, NIBIN Technicians, Intelligence, Evidence, Homeland Security, SWAT, Mobile Field Force, Marine Search & Rescue, EOD, and Aviation. Major Morris began his career with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. He is a graduate of the Louisiana State Police Basic Police Academy, LSU Law Enforcement Institute, Advanced Homicide Investigations, SWAT Commander, and numerous other law enforcement schools. He served eight years as an investigator with the Louisiana Department of Justice and two years as an EBRSO reserve deputy.

Throughout his twenty-six years with the Sheriff’s Office, he served in; Uniform Patrol, General Detectives, Armed Robbery & Burglary, Homicide, and a member of both the SWAT and Maritime response teams. He was the first Commander of the Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit where he served for 8 years, which was first formed by Sheriff Sid Gautreaux in 2008. Major Morris has served on three separate multi-agency Serial Killer Task Forces, which lead to the arrest of all three suspects. 

In 2019, Major Morris began serving on the FBI Rapid DNA Pilot and Implementation Committee for implementing rapid DNA testing during the booking process.  In July 2022, the Sheriff’s Office was the first agency in the country to receive authority to operate a Rapid DNA program at the time of booking. Collecting Rapid DNA at the time of booking has been very successful. Major Morris is now expanding the Rapid DNA program with a new a pilot project with the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to utilize Rapid DNA on crime scene evidence. 

Gov. Jeff Landry Recognizes Peace Officers Memorial Day & Police Week

Baton Rouge, LA– Today, Governor Jeff Landry issued an Executive Order recognizing May 15th as “Peace Officers Memorial Day.” He ordered the flags of the U.S. and the State of Louisiana to be flown at half-staff over the Capitol and all public buildings until sunset on May 15th, and he officially declared the week of May 15th as “Police Week.” EO is attached.

We owe a debt of gratitude to our officers, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our State. Today, I was honored to be joined by members of the Fraternal Order of Police, Louisiana Chief’s Association, Louisiana State Troopers, and the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association to sign an Executive Order to ensure Louisiana publicly honors the service and sacrifice of our men and women in blue,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

Gov. Jeff Landry & Legislators Visit Texas Southern Border

Baton Rouge, LA– Today, Governor Jeff Landry visited the Texas southern border with Brigadier General Thomas Friloux, Senator Caleb Kleinpeter, Senator Stewart Cathey, Senator Franklin Foil, Senator Mike Reese, Rep. Chuck Owen, Rep. Jack McFarland, Rep. Raymond Crews, Rep. Mike Johnson, Rep. Jay Galle. They received an overview on Operation Lone Star, had lunch with Louisiana soldiers, and met with Louisiana soldiers on mission at Eagle Pass.

“It was great to join our legislators and see firsthand the work our Louisiana National Guardsmen are doing at our southern border. Due to the help of Louisiana, and many other states, illegal immigration has dropped significantly since September 2023. I appreciate the Guardsmen who briefed us as well as the legislators who attended today’s trip,” said Governor Jeff Landry. 

“We appreciate Governor Landry inviting us to see firsthand the crisis at the Texas border. It was an eye-opening experience. One thing is clear—sending our National Guard to help our neighbors in Texas was the right call.  It is evident, from the decrease in border crossings since the Louisiana Guard arrived, that their support to our neighbors in Texas has played a crucial role in protecting our borders,” said the legislators.

Governor Jeff Landry Issues Statement Following the Clearing of Unlawful Tulane Protests

Baton Rouge, LA– Today, Governor Jeff Landry and the Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Robert Hodges issued the following statements following law enforcement’s clearing of the unlawful protests on Tulane’s campus. 

“My appreciation goes out to Tulane President Michael Fitts, the Tulane Police Department, Tulane Police Chief Frank Young, New Orleans Police Chief Anna Kirkpatrick, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Louisiana State Police for safely clearing the Tulane campus of those who sought to illegally occupy the campus! Many colleges across our country may allow this lawlessness, but Louisiana will NOT. This State will not tolerate those who seek to disturb the peace by means of criminality,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

“At the request of the Tulane University Police Department and the New Orleans Police Department, Louisiana State Police assisted with removing the unsanctioned protests on Tulane’s campus this morning," stated Colonel Robert P. Hodges, Louisiana State Police Superintendent.  “Our Troopers worked alongside our partner agencies to ensure the safety of students, protestors, and the surrounding community while restoring order and peace to the Tulane University campus.”

Gov. Jeff Landry Declares April 29th Week Holocaust Remembrance Week

Baton Rouge, LA– Today, Governor Jeff Landry issued a proclamation declaring the week of April 29th Holocaust Remembrance Week in Louisiana. The proclamation is attached.

Governor Landry Signs Emergency Declaration for Severe Storms and Tornadoes

Baton Rouge, LA- Following his visit to some of the hardest hit areas, Governor Jeff Landry signed an emergency declaration for the severe storms and tornadoes that took place on April 10. This declaration permits the use of state resources to assist with the recovery process in each of the affected parishes. State of Emergency is attached. 

The state will provide debris removal assistance in the following parishes: Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana, St. Landry, and St. Tammany (within the jurisdiction of Slidell).

Modernization of CPRA and DENR Receives Strong Support

Baton Rouge, LA- Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry today applauded Representative Bret Geymann and others for their role in developing legislation to modernize the Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR) to provide for better management of the State's natural resources, in addition to offering positive changes to the make-up of the Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority Board (CPRA).

Since taking office, Governor Landry has prioritized the need to reform State government to become better at addressing the needs of Louisiana and its people by focusing on ways to streamline processes to promote responsive governance while providing significant returns to the taxpayers and the industries that call Louisiana home. In doing so, Governor Landry continues to work with DENR to identify areas where integrating best practices throughout the administration can lead to meaningful change.

After extensive discussions with DENR, Representative Geymann introduced HB 806 and HB 810 last week to begin that process. The two bills introduced by Representative Geymann will update DENR's statutory language to reflect the needs of Louisiana's growing energy industry and ensure that Louisiana maintains its role as a national leader in energy production. The bills also provide for further growth within DENR by statutorily creating or integrating the following offices under DENR:

• The Natural Resources Trust Authority (NRTA) will seek to reverse the decline in oil and gas production by establishing a finance arm for the State Mineral and Energy Board that will develop, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Treasury and State Bond Commission, a strategic plan to identify financial challenges facing the energy industry and natural resources-related projects. The NRTA would provide guidance and oversight for managing operators in the natural resources/energy industry in creating financial instruments that provide appropriate funding for plugging and abandonment obligations for operators who are orphaned. At the same time, it would oversee funding methods for natural resources-related projects, such as those carried out by CPRA, and public-private projects in the inter-related natural resources/energy/water management spaces.

• The Office of Enforcement will handle all regulatory enforcement activities related to energy development and production, consolidating what have previously been separate efforts by various divisions within the agency. By centralizing this activity within DENR, in addition to functions such as permit review, rulemaking, and record-keeping, the enforcement function can be better focused while working closely with the regulatory/compliance side to ensure that enforcement practices remain consistent with statutory law and any regulations developed within the Secretary's office.

• The Office of Energy will provide a path forward with permitting and developing multiple energy sources. It is vital to ensure that the current functions of the State Energy Office remain closely aligned with DENR to support any activities related to deploying new technologies and practices to help the State manage the expansion of its energy portfolio. 

• The Office of Land and Water will ensure that any activities carried out related to water management are done so in a manner that recognizes the relationship between different watersheds and aquifers and encompasses the needs of all communities and stakeholders, from residential use to commercial to industrial. 

• The Office of the Oil Spill Coordinator (LOSCO) will become a part of DENR and preserve all statutory functions to ensure continuity of its function. LOSCO will maintain its role as a lead agency for the State in responding to oil spills while also providing LOSCO with representation within an agency that has a natural connection to its core function.

Following the release of HB 806 and HB 810, Governor Jeff Landry issued the following statement highlighting the incredible support these two bills have from the energy, environment, coastal, and legislative communities.

“These bills signal a new day for Louisiana—one where government is better aligned and works more efficiently and effectively for the people of Louisiana. Our oil and gas industry and our beautiful coast are what defines Louisiana, and it is important we prioritize both. These two bills will ensure both CPRA and LDENR work hand-in-hand to ultimately pave the way for a brighter future for Louisiana,” said Governor Jeff Landry.

"I am resolutely committed to advancing House Bill 806 and House Bill 810, recognizing their critical roles in addressing today’s multifaceted challenges, along with those to come, including orphaned oil and gas wells and the imperative need for recurring funding for coastal restoration projects. These bills represent a holistic approach to modernizing our department, enabling us to tackle pressing issues into the future. HB 806, through its restructuring of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Board, strengthens our state's capacity to oversee and implement vital coastal protection and restoration initiatives, ensuring efficient and effective management of our coastal resources. Meanwhile, HB 810 not only promotes responsible energy production but also ensures recurring funding mechanisms for vital coastal restoration efforts, essential for protecting our state's invaluable coastal ecosystems. As we navigate impending fiscal challenges, it's imperative that we prioritize sustainable energy development and environmental conservation. These bills provide a strategic framework to address these priorities comprehensively, securing a resilient and prosperous future for Louisiana,” said LDNR Secretary Tyler Gray.
